American Express Butterfly Card
Published by square. November 27th, 2006
The key-fob credit card, though a good idea, hasn’t quite gained popularity with the masses. American Express’ take on the idea may change that. Instead of just offering a mini-card with a hole in it, AmEx has created an elegant silver case into which their Gold Card can be placed. The card itself folds in half and is stowed inside the case. It can be taken out, snapped into full card form, and used like any other credit card, or it can remain in the case with just the magnetic strip exposed for quick transactions.
AmEx has thought the concept through, and executed it well, as the design of this key-fob would appeal to their traditional Gold Card holder. It’s upscale, somewhat exclusive, and practical.
