Published by square. April 15th, 2007An oak and glass table made by Italian designer Carlo Mollino in 1949 sold Thursday for $3.8 million - double the previous auction record for a piece of 20th-century furniture, Christie’s auction house said.
“Mollino was one of a handful of highly revered designers whose production was relatively limited and whose pieces inspire a great respect among collectors,” said Josh Holdeman, the auction house’s head of 20th-century decorative art and design in New York.
