Lighting

bruce_munro.jpg

International sculptor and lighting designer Bruce Munro returns after 10 years to Black Swan Arts’ in Frome, Somerset, from 15th November to 24th December 2008.

Bruce and his team will install a chandelier in Black Swan’s Gallery Two, on the first floor of an 18th century round tower originally used for drying wool, with stone walls and a conical roof. The intimate space is naturally dark, which increases the drama of the illumination. Munro’s ‘Light Shower’ fibre optic chandelier will be mounted from a ceiling plate and cascade down to floor level in an extraordinary shower of light. The diffuser at the end of each fibre has a teardrop shape, made of injection-moulded acrylic in three parts—a system which has taken a year to develop.

the_ociu_light.jpg

OCIU is the name-card of ZAVA collection. The suspension is fully realized in opal methacrylate, 8 mm thickness, diameter of 185 cm and a width of 90 cm. Its name born from a typical Venice dialet expression: OCIU means EYE! or PAY ATTENTION! 100% well-aimed. Immediate and spontaneous is the sentence coming out from who observes OCIU for the first time: HUGE! IMPRESSIVE!

 scheisse.jpg

Scheisse is a large pendant lamp. The lamp pays its respect to the traditional incandescent light bulb, which with its warm light and good color reflection has given light to our households for so many years. The classic light bulb is one of Man’s most important inventions. Unfortunately this bulb is ineffective, which creates challenges in our threatened environment. Scheisse is a blend of art and industrial design, an experiment with light and shadow as well as positive and negative shapes. Scheisse creates a distinct shadow and sculpture in its environment. Wherever placed, Scheisse will hopefully stand out as a true icon for all light lovers.

Light pieces by SAAZS

If LEDs and OLEDs are the future of lighting and that is what you thought would remain the situation for the next few years then you surely are in for a shock. It may not be much of a shock though if you have been following the amazing trends in lighting and illumination methods that have been taking shape in the last couple of years. I have seen not too long ago wonderful wallpaper that acts both as an incandescent source and a beautiful decoration. Now it is the turn of your furniture to double up and start acting as the light sources in your home. If Saint-Gobain and Saazs had their way with it, then it might not be long before all this is possible.

cobra_4.jpg

PizzaKobra, a new table light designed for iGuzzini by Ron Arad. The light features an articulated, chrome-plated spiral that can lie in a flat coil on the ground (like a pizza) or be raised to resemble a cobra about to strike. Being chrome-plated and the light source made up of 6 white LEDs also helps to light up the corner of your favorite room. The steel/aluminum lamp with chrome finish is bit heavy and weighs 2.5kg. It includes a sensor switch, which helps to switch on off the lamp with a mere touch.
